What is a diesel particulate filter (DPF)?

A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a vital component in modern diesel engines, designed to reduce harmful emissions by capturing and storing soot particles produced during combustion. By trapping these particles, the DPF helps prevent them from being released into the atmosphere, playing a key role in meeting environmental standards. Over time, the filter needs to be cleaned through a process called “regeneration,” which burns off the accumulated soot.

What happens to your car if it has a faulty DPF?

If your car has a blocked DPF, it can cause serious engine issues, reducing power and increasing fuel consumption. Here are some of the issues that can occur:

·      Loss of engine power & sluggish acceleration

·      Inability to rev past a certain RPM

·      Black smoke from the exhaust

·      Difficulty starting the engine

·      Reduced fuel economy

·      Start-stop function not working

·      Strong diesel smell inside the cabin

The details of the Jaguar Land Rover DPF Claim

It is alleged that several of Jaguar Land Rover’s vehicles are fitted with faulty DPFs, and that these clogged filters can cause the vehicle to lose power suddenly with very little warning – which not only inhibits the vehicle’s performance, it also poses a safety hazards to the drivers, their passengers and any pedestrians.

If you have owned one of the diesel vehicles below (from 2015 onwards), whether you have yet experienced issues with your DPF or not, you could be owed thousands in compensation. It only takes a few seconds to check if you are eligible:
